Dr. Vasilia Kourtis-Kazoullis, University of the Aegean

Vasilia Kourtis-Kazoullis is a professor of “Bilingualism and Learning in Electronic Environments” at the Department of Primary Education of the University of the Aegean, Greece. She is the Assistant Director of the Master’s program “Analysis and Teaching of First and Second/Foreign Languages” (Department of Mediterranean Studies and Department of Primary Education, University of the Aegean).

She is also the Director of Linguistics Laboratory at the Department of Primary Education, University of the Aegean. As Director of the Linguistics Laboratory, she has coordinated voluntary language lessons for refugees and migrants on the island of Rhodes, Greece.

Her research, publications and teaching (at a pre- and post- graduate level) are centered around issues dealing with bilingualism, the teaching and learning of second languages and the pedagogical design of electronic learning environments.

In addition, she has acted as scientific director of various E.U. and nationally funded research projects in the region of the North and South Aegean. She was recently the scientific director for the North and South Aegean in the project “Supportive interventions in Roma communities to enhance access and reduce dropout from education for children and adolescents" coordinated by the Intercultural Education Studies Lab of the University of Athens.

I am interested in the AGILE project, due to the fact that, as Director of the Linguistics Laboratory, I have coordinated voluntary language lessons for refugees and migrants on the island of Rhodes, Greece. The lessons for adults took place in the University Linguistics Laboratory and were taught on a voluntary basis by professors and university students from three departments. The purpose of these lessons was to provide resilience through education.
